How to Make Change
When: Every Monday before 2 PM; Thursday before 2 PM (if needed)
What: Make sure the bottom safe has enough $1’s, $5’s, & coins for the week & weekend.
General instructions (refer to your store’s worksheet for additional guidance):
- Count to make sure there is $1,400 (bills) in change total.
- Group $1’s together in stacks of $100.
- Group $5’s together in stacks of $100.
- Group LARGE bills together (you’ll exchange this group of large bills at the bank for the $1’s and $5’s you need)
- Count how many rolls of quarters & nickels there are.
- If you don’t have enough rolls to get you through the next 2 days, take the total amount that you need to exchange out of last night’s drop during your daily cash reconciliation process so you can “purchase” the coins needed.
- Write how much you removed from the drop at the bottom of the shift detail report (you will exchange these bills for rolls of quarters & nickels at the bank).
You will likely only need to “purchase” coins with drop money on Mondays.
- Count how many singles there are in the bottom safe’s coin change box.
- If this is close to your “Goal” amount (listed below) no action is necessary.
- If there are very few singles, roll up the quarters in this box (you will exchange these rolls for singles at the bank to replenish the coin box).
- Determine how much needs to be exchanged at the bank to reach your goal amount
(Use the worksheet for your store)
- Contact bank to request amounts needed, save your place in line:
PNC CCK at 441 & Hillsboro: TEXT “0100715” to 762123, then follow prompts
(BACKUP way to contact: Glorines.Santiago@PNC.com or call 954-575-1129)
Alternative: PNC Boca at Powerline & SW 18th ST (561-391-5957)
- Take envelope with completed worksheet/cash to exchange money at bank
If requested provide the following information for your store:

Margate PNC Account#

- Replenish the change stacks at your store
Bill stacks in the bottom safe should have $100 each. Coins should be neatly stored.
MARGATE should follow these steps to reach their GOAL counts:
Start your Daily Cash Drop Reconciliation
Do not place envelope in top safe until you’ve (1) removed the cash you need to “purchase” coin rolls OR (2) confirmed no coins need to be purchased
Take the Greeter Change Box into the office & count the cash (Goal: $300).
Exchange bills inside the Greeter Change Box with $50’s, $20’s, $10’s found in the bottom safe:
- Start by exchanging with $50 bills (keep no more than 3 x $50 bills in this box)
- Then, exchange with $20 bills
- Make sure there are at least some $10 bills in this box (if none are available, use $5 bills)
There should now no longer be $100’s in the Greeter Change Box.
Now you can use the following worksheet to calculate what change you need:
Margate’s Greeter Change Box goal is:

If the box has MORE than $300, the ‘extra’ will likely belong to the bottom safe.

Note: The coin box helps closers exchange any quarters that belong to the nightly drop out for singles. They will likely only use a few singles per night.
If I have less than $10 (in singles) inside the coin box, I need to roll the coin box quarters.

Exchange cash at the bank for the singles you need to restock the coin box.

Example of Coin Box/Quarters exchange for clarity:
You need 10 rolls of quarters ($100). You removed $100 from the prior night’s reconciled drop & wrote a note on the bottom of the Shift Detail report.
You were then able to wrap 3 rolls of quarters from the coin box ($30).
(You may use these 3 wrapped rolls to restock the quarter supply - but you’ll still need to replace the same amount in $1 bills for the coin box.)
=
You now only need $70 in quarters from the bank ($100 - $30 = $70) to restock your quarters & $30 in singles from the bank to restock the coin box.
